Compatibility: which Macs can run it

Feral Interactive’s Mac port of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is an Intel-native application, tested here on macOS Sequoia with an M1 MacBook Air. The developer states support for all 15-inch MacBook Pro models released since late 2016, all 21.5-inch Retina 4K iMacs released since 2017, all 27-inch Retina 5K iMacs released since late 2014, and all Mac Pros released since late 2013. Owners of more recent Apple Silicon machines should expect the translation layer to handle it, though performance margins depend on the specific chip and active resolution.

A play-style sequence for the patient observer

  1. Survey the room from a vent. Adam Jensen’s smart vision picks out hostiles, hackable routers and alternate routes before you step into the light.
  2. Decide on the tone of the next ten minutes. The Tesla arm cannon can tag and disable up to four targets once upgraded, but a silent takedown leaves no arc signature.
  3. Remote-hack a laser grid. A few seconds of remote access can turn a turret friendly or silence a camera loop without touching a keypad.
  4. Move through the consequence. The Prague hub remembers whether you ghosted a police checkpoint or left scorch marks. That memory shapes dialogue and side-access later.
  5. Pause and read a pocket secretary. The real narrative lives in emails, apartment layouts and the quiet dissent of civilians caught between augmented rights and martial law.

This workflow suits someone who treats a level as a puzzle box rather than a shooting gallery. The game rewards restraint and spatial curiosity; players who prefer momentum over methodical dismantling will find the pacing heavy. The Mac version arrived on December 12, 2017, and the 1.1.2 update brings minor fixes without altering the core tempo. In short: a dense, slow-burn espionage sim for the player who enjoys eavesdropping as much as engineering a silent extraction.

Field-of-view: raising it to 90 for a wider desktop view

A few changes in the options menu make a noticeable difference to how the game reads on screen and responds to input. The default field-of-view is narrow enough to feel constricted on a desktop display: raising it to roughly 90 degrees opens the periphery without fisheye distortion. Motion blur and chromatic aberration are on by default, and both soften the clean geometric lines of Prague’s architecture; switching them off sharpens the image considerably. The control sensitivity curve for gamepad sticks starts quite flat, so nudging the X and Y sensitivity up by ten to fifteen percent gives Jensen a more responsive turn rate that suits the pace of cover-to-cover movement. Finally, turning off objective markers and the minimap is not for everyone, but it transforms navigation into genuine observation — you begin to read shop signs, balcony placements and the hum of a distant drone instead of following a floating diamond.

Utulek checkpoint: the rain-slicked route to a TF29 safe house

You load into the Překážka district just after nightfall, rain streaking the glass of a shuttered bistro. The mission brief is simple — reach the TF29 safe house — but the direct route passes through a police checkpoint where augmented citizens are being pulled aside for identity verification. You have no intention of joining the queue.

You climb a stack of crates behind the bistro and mantle onto a low rooftop. From here, smart vision highlights two armed officers on the street, a camera patrolling the checkpoint arc, and a hackable router box mounted on the wall of a derelict optometrist’s shop. You remote-access the router, disable the camera’s tracking for eight seconds, and drop silently behind the officer nearest the gate. A non-lethal takedown, a body dragged behind a dumpster, and you are through the checkpoint unnoticed. Inside the courtyard, a pocket secretary left on a bench reveals a side entrance to the safe house through a flooded maintenance corridor — a route you would have missed had you sprinted through the front door. The session closes with Jensen reaching the safe house, the checkpoint incident never logged, and the rain still falling on a quiet courtyard.
