Version 2.9 ships with a library of more than 600 HD and 4K images. One practical routine: set a folder of your own renders to rotate while you work, then let the app return to its built-in collection in the evening.

How does automatic changing work?

You can schedule wallpaper changes by minute, day, or year. The interval you choose determines how often the desktop refreshes from the current set.

Your own images: drag and drop to desktop

Yes. Drag a local image onto the app window and it becomes the desktop background without further steps. Full-screen mode is handled as well.

Does it interfere at startup?

A short setup ritual: launch at login and forget

After installation, I suggest spending ten minutes on a small configuration ritual that makes the app disappear into the background—exactly where a wallpaper tool belongs. Open the preferences and enable launch at system startup; the icon will sit quietly in the menu bar, and your chosen wallpaper loads before you see the desktop. Next, pick a change interval. The one-minute setting is useful for testing, but for daily use the day interval feels more considered. Finally, tick the option to automatically collect used wallpapers. This builds a personal library of every background the app has shown, which you can revisit later without hunting through the full 600-image catalogue.

Schedule fails: check System Events permissions

A few friction points surface early, and they are almost always resolvable in under a minute.

  • The wallpaper does not change on schedule. Check that the app has permission to control System Events. On macOS 11.1 and later, you may need to grant it accessibility access in Security & Privacy preferences. Without that, the automatic timer simply cannot reach the desktop settings.
  • A dragged image looks soft or misaligned. The app adapts images to full-screen mode, but it works with the file you give it. If the source is a low-resolution JPEG stretched to fill a 4K display, the result will disappoint. Use images that match or exceed your display’s native pixel dimensions, particularly if you are sourcing 4k wallpaper hd wallpapers mac torrent collections with uneven quality.
  • The app window stays visible after setting a wallpaper. This is by design—it remains open so you can adjust your choice. Press Command-H to hide it, or close the window normally. The wallpaper stays applied either way.
  • Startup launch is not sticking. If you enabled it in the app but it does not open at login, check System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items. Occasionally macOS removes an entry after an update; you can add it back manually by dragging the app from the Applications folder.

Mission Control: one wallpaper across all Spaces

The app coexists comfortably with most creative workflows, but a few interactions are worth noting. If you use Mission Control with multiple Spaces, the wallpaper applies to all desktops uniformly; it does not assign different images to different Spaces. Users who want per-Space backgrounds will need to set those manually through System Preferences—the app controls the primary desktop only.

When using dark mode, the wallpapers do not shift tone automatically. A bright 4K landscape will stay bright regardless of your system appearance. My workaround is to drag darker images into the app when I switch to dark mode in the evening, or to curate a separate folder of low-key images and point the app there for night sessions. The auto-collection feature helps here—it remembers every image you have used, so swapping between day and night sets becomes a matter of dragging from the collected folder.

With video and audio production tools—the kind my studio mates run daily—the app’s footprint is negligible. It sits at around 40 MB of memory in normal use and does not trigger significant CPU spikes during wallpaper changes on Intel machines. If you are running a heavy render in DaVinci Resolve or Logic Pro and the one-minute interval feels intrusive, switch to the day interval temporarily; the change is immediate and requires no restart.

One small integration I appreciate: the app respects macOS Focus modes indirectly. Because it does not generate notifications, it never breaks a Focus session. A wallpaper change happens silently, and you notice it only when you look at the desktop. That restraint is rare in apps that handle automatic scheduling.

It can launch at system startup if you allow it. The interface is available in English and Simplified Chinese.

Questions I actually get

How many wallpapers are included?

The app selects from more than 600 4K and HD wallpapers in its library.

Which macOS versions are supported?

It requires macOS 11.1 or later on an Intel Mac.

Can the wallpaper change by itself?

Yes, automatic changes can be set by minute, day, or year.
