Think of it as a companion to the familiar Photos app on your Mac: it steps in where the built-in tool stops, handling libraries and duplicates with more precision.

PowerPhotos deutsch download — what it actually means
The download itself is not localised into German; the interface is English. Searches for a German version typically point to the same standard installer from Fat Cat Software.

PowerPhotos torrent — what to check before launching
Modified copies from unofficial sources often strip code-signing and can introduce instability. For a smooth experience with a PowerPhotos torrent, verify the build’s signature and grant full disk access in System Settings.

PowerPhotos Mac — the core purpose
A dedicated utility for organising a collection that has outgrown one library. It lets you split photos across several smaller libraries instead of packing everything into a single, unwieldy file.

PowerPhotos download — what you get
An app that can browse library contents without opening each one separately, search across all your libraries at once, and show duplicate photos side by side so you can remove the extra copies you no longer need.

A workflow: moving a single year into its own library

Start by launching PowerPhotos and selecting your main System Photo Library from the sidebar. Click the Copy Photos button, then choose Copy selected photos to a new library. A fresh library file will be created in a location you specify — an external drive works well here, particularly if the year in question is large.

Next, pick the photos. PowerPhotos presents the same Moments, Collections and Years view you already know from Photos, so you can select an entire year with one click. Check the box to delete the originals from the source library after copying: this keeps the process tidy and prevents duplicates down the line. The app estimates the storage you will reclaim before you commit.

Once the copy finishes, the new library appears in PowerPhotos’ sidebar. You can rename it — say, 2023.photoslibrary — and set it to open by default when you double-click that library in the app. The original library is now smaller, lighter, and quicker to back up. If you ever need those photos again, switch libraries with two clicks; no importing, no waiting.

A scenario: the family archivist

Consider someone who has been the designated photographer for family gatherings for over a decade. Their Photos library holds scanned prints from the 1980s, iPhone shots from every birthday, and a few thousand burst-mode sequences where only one frame was ever kept. The library sits at just under 400 GB. iCloud storage is full, and the Mac’s internal drive is struggling.

This user opens PowerPhotos and runs a duplicate scan across that single library. The side-by-side comparison view reveals several hundred exact copies — the same portrait exported twice, re-imported by mistake, or left over from an old Aperture migration. Deleting the extras frees 12 GB in a few minutes.

They then split the library into three: one for scanned family history, one for the children’s early years, and the current library for everything from the last two years. The older libraries go onto a compact external SSD. The main library now fits comfortably on the Mac, iCloud storage drops below the paid-tier threshold, and Photos itself opens without the beachball that had become routine.

Duplicate scanning speed: leaves library management untouched

Duplicate Photo Finder (Overmacs): a focused duplicate-detection tool that scans folders and Photos libraries. It is fast at what it does and offers a clean preview, but it does not touch library management. It will find duplicate images; it will not split a library, copy albums between libraries, or browse library contents without importing.

Photos Duplicate Cleaner (Systweak): another single-purpose duplicate remover, aimed at casual users. Its interface is simpler than PowerPhotos’, which can feel friendlier at first, but the comparison tools are less granular — you often see thumbnails only, not a full side-by-side with metadata. It also does nothing for managing multiple libraries.

Gemini 2 (MacPaw): a general duplicate finder that works across the entire Mac, including Photos libraries. Attractive design and a broad scope make it appealing, but it lacks the library-specific intelligence PowerPhotos brings: no library splitting, no cross-library search, and no awareness of Photos’ internal structure beyond finding duplicate files. For a user whose photo collection lives entirely inside the Photos ecosystem, PowerPhotos is the more surgical tool.

Burst photos flagged: adjust the matching threshold

“The duplicate scan finds photos that are not actually duplicates.” This usually happens with burst photos or RAW+JPEG pairs. In the scan options, adjust the matching threshold from Exact Match to Similar Photos or increase the minimum file-size slider. The side-by-side view will then show only pairs that genuinely warrant a second look.

“My library won’t open after copying.” If you moved photos between libraries and the target library refuses to open in Photos, repair it first. Hold down Option while launching Photos, select the library, and let Photos run its own repair routine. If that fails, PowerPhotos includes a library repair function accessible from the Library menu — it runs a deeper consistency check.

“The app asks for permissions repeatedly.” PowerPhotos needs full disk access to read Photos libraries, which are package files. Grant it in System Settings under Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access. If you have multiple libraries on an external drive, drag the drive itself into the list as well.

“Deleting duplicates freed space in the library but not on disk.” Photos keeps deleted items in its Recently Deleted album for 30 days. Open that album inside Photos (or within PowerPhotos’ browser), select all, and click Delete Immediately. The reclaimed space will then reflect at the Finder level.

Questions I actually get

Is PowerPhotos a replacement for the Photos app?

No, it is a separate product from iPhoto Library Manager and works alongside the Photos app to manage multiple libraries and find duplicates.
